'For Gort and Country'

May 1940. It was their first taste of war. The raw recruits from the farms, villages and towns around Cupar and Dundee chose to fight in a 'mechanized cavalry' regiment. This meant fighting with light tanks and scout carriers with a minimal of training. This book is based on several war diaries and unique personal recollections made available to the author. It traces the fate of the regiment from invading Belgium through battles at Cassel, Vyfweg before finally reaching the beaches of Dunkirk. The actions of the 1st FFY regiment helped slow down the advance of the German army, allowing over 400,000 Allied soldiers to evacuate to safety and live to fight another day.
